The Procedure:
Breast augmentation is a customizable cosmetic surgery that enhances the size, shape, and volume of the breasts using implants or fat transfer. The procedure typically involves:
- Consultation & Implant Selection: The patient selects the desired implant type, size, and shape based on their body proportions and aesthetic goals.
- Anesthesia: The surgery is performed under general anesthesia for patient comfort.
- Incision Placement: The surgeon makes an incision in one of three locations: under the breast crease (inframammary), around the areola (periareolar), or in the armpit (transaxillary).
- Implant Placement: The chosen implant is carefully inserted either above or below the chest muscle (subglandular or submuscular placement).
- Closing & Recovery: Once the implants are positioned, incisions are closed, and the patient is given post-op care instructions.
Recovery:
Recovery from breast augmentation is relatively smooth, with most patients resuming light activities within a few days and normal activities within two to four weeks. Key aspects of recovery include:
- Swelling, tightness, and mild discomfort that improves within the first few weeks
- Wearing a surgical bra to provide support and minimize swelling
- Avoiding strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least 4-6 weeks
- Mild bruising and sensitivity that gradually fades
- Final results becoming visible within three to six months as the implants settle
Post-Op Care & Precautions:
For the best possible results and a smooth recovery, patients should:
✔️ Wear the recommended support bra to help with healing and implant positioning
✔️ Avoid sleeping on the stomach or side for at least a few weeks
✔️ Stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet to promote healing
✔️ Refrain from smoking and alcohol as they can impair recovery
✔️ Follow all post-op instructions provided by the surgeon
